Annelien van Wauwe N

Belgian clarinetist Annelien Van Wauwe, a former BBC New Generation Artist and winner of the prestigious 2018 Borletti Buitoni Trust Award, is renowned for her performances of repertoire on both modern and period clarinets. She is considered to be one of the most exciting and original clarinetists of her generation.

From an early age, she has won numerous international competitions. Her joint first prize award at the 61st International ARD Music Competition in Munich, in 2012, was a decisive step towards international recognition.

Since then, Annelien has performed with many leading orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the SWR Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, Brussels Philharmonic, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Symphonic and Philharmonic Orchestras. Annelien has made regular appearances at prestigious halls in Europe including: the Tonhalle Zürich, Bozar Brussels, the Philharmonie Berlin, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Konzerthaus Vienna, the Wigmore Hall and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

From 2015 to 1017 Annelien Van Wauwe participated in the BBC New Generation Art-ists scheme. She has performed with the BBC Symphonic Orchestras, played debuts in the UK’s main concert venues and recorded a wide repertoire for BBC3. In the same year the label GENUIN launched her 'Weinberg Prokofiev Clarinet Sonatas' CD and she received the Klara-Award from the Flemish Radio.

Annelien is a regular guest at international festivals such as the Lucerne Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Cheltenham Music Festival, the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, the Kissinger Sommer and the Festival de Radio France in Montpellier.

She originally studied -amongst others- with Sabine Meyer who invited her to play a tour with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra under Andrew Manze. She also participated in master classes with Yehuda Gilad and studied period music with Eric Hoeprich and Ernst Schlader.

Annelien Van Wauwe is the principal teacher at the Royal Conservatory Antwerp.
