Thomas Beijer is an internationally acclaimed Dutch pianist, composer and multidisciplinary artist. He won the Young Pianist Foundation National Piano Competition at eighteen, with the international jury praising him as “an extremely interesting musical personality, with distinctive ideas about music. A true artist.” In 2022, he received the Nederlandse Muziekprijs, the highest distinction for Dutch classical musicians.
Beijer performs throughout Europe, Asia and the United States, working with orchestras including the Residentie Orkest The Hague, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Camerata RCO, Symphoniker Hamburg and the Dutch Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. His collaborations have included conductors such as Neeme Järvi, Gustavo Gimeno, Antony Hermus, Bas Wiegers, Pascal Rophé, David Afkham and Markus Stenz. He has appeared frequently at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, including his solo debut in the Main Hall in the Great Pianists series, and is known for a repertoire spanning early music to contemporary works, with a particular affinity for Spanish music.
Beijer’s 2026–2027 season includes a major series of appearances, organised by AVRO TROS broadcasting company, with the Dutch Radio Philharmonic Orchestra at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. He performs De Falla’s Noches en los jardines de España with conductor David Afkham, Martin’s Second Piano Concerto with Markus Stenz, and AVRO TROS commissioned Beijer an orchestra piece which will be performed with conductor Emilia Hoving. His chamber music engagements in this Friday night series include a piano duo recital with Hannes Minnaar and a concert with Barbara Kozelj and Animato Kwartet featuring works by Chausson, Dvořák and a new composition by Beijer.
Beijer is also an accomplished composer and arranger. His works include song cycles, concertos, chamber music and orchestral works, including Bonfire with Wish Lantern and Rising Waltz, premiered by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra in 2024. He is resident arranger for the Royal Concertgebouw and the Concertgebouw Orchestra. His recordings include music by Albéniz, de Falla, Granados, Mozart, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Ravel, Frank Martin, Poulenc and his own compositions.
Born in the Netherlands in 1988, Beijer studied with Jan Wijn at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and later with Jorge Luis Prats. He also studied composition with Elmer Schönberger and Malcolm Singer.
Beyond music, Beijer is a novelist, screenwriter, film director and visual artist. His books include Geen Jalapeños and As Long as the Music Plays (2026). His interdisciplinary Erik Satie programme combines piano, readings and animated films created by Beijer himself.
Since 2019, he has been artistic director of the Young Pianist Foundation.
